After the bridge at the base of the falls you have 2 options to the top - over the John Muir Trail (2.7 miles to the top) or the Mist Trail (.3 miles to the top). A no brainer to us! If we were going to climb several thousand feet in elevation we were not going to be all day about it! .... so the trail was closed.... and the gate locked.... There were footprints on the other side of the gate - other's had obviously gone on before us!
